Why doesn’t Sony (or 3rd party like Logitech) develop a PS3 remote app for the iPhone? It’d be awesome to be able to use the iPhone for text entry and basic movement controls. Apple’s Bluetooth keyboards already works with the PS3 so why not the iPhone? I could be overlooking some fundemental connectivity issue here but I don’t see a reason why it couldn’t work.
OK I get that Sony will want to push their PSP as the only multimedia device that can pair with their console but it doesn’t have a method for text entry like the iPhone does, they can leave out any media streaming & remote play features, I can stream media to my iPhone with other apps and from my computer already and I don’t want to be able to use the iPhone as a games controller. All I want is a remote.
I guess they might not want to harm sales of their own remotes and keyboards, but I would have thought they would reap the benefits of not having to manufacture and distribute hardware. They “simply” develop and upload some software to the App Store stick on a £8.99 price point and boom! - sit back and watch the money roll in (after Apple takes it’s cut of course).
I’ll even go so far as designing the interface for them if they like.
UPDATE: Well after some googling it looks like there has been something released that might just work. BD Touch and iTunes Link
